Information for this article came from Vice Mayor and former Chief of Police Gary Tatum, the Vacaville Museum, Vacaville Heritage Council, and Solano County Archives. First in a series In the 1800s, a constable or two were assigned to an area as soon as a town was established. Also, one or two people, generally lawyers, would act as justices of the peace. The justice of the peace served as a judge, could perform marriages, was there for registering voters and recording deeds and was the notary public.

In 1869, horse thieves were the bane of society. Early in the year a couple of mares were stolen from Lagoon Valley and then the most valuable two horses of 18 were taken from Mosley's Ranch near Vallejo.

Information for this article came from the Western Railway Museum and the Vacaville Heritage Council. Second in a series In 1869, the Vallejo Street Car Co. began operation as a horse-car line going from the business district to the train depot in north Vallejo. It proved to be a poor business venture, as the car had difficulty staying on the tracks.
