Fun Time At The Springs / Wichels, Ernest [838] [WICHELS-1965-838]
Last Sept. 13 we wrote of the past glory of Blue Rock Springs-how it was established about 1866, taken over by General Frisbie in 1869, the center of Vailejo's summer life-dancing, swimming, camping-for half a century.

The White Sulphur Spring / Wichels, Ernest [850] [WICHELS-1964-850]
The "day camps" at our Blue Rock Springs recreation spot now become a memory with the opening of another school semester. Some 60 years ago this time of the year marked the end of the "summer camp" for scores of Vallejo families.

Emigh recalls simple, fun times in Rio Vista / Delaplane, Kristin [428] [ECHOS-1999-428]
When Soren and Dorthea Nielsen first moved to their farm near Rio Vista in 1897, there was a one-story house with a kitchen, dining room, living room and one bedroom. As the family grew to four girls, Soren added two more bedrooms. Furnishings were simple; in the living room, a chair, a couch, some throw rugs on the wood floors.

It's been a fun ride, but I'm ready to explore the West / Bowen, Jerry [868] [WAYITWAS-2008-868]
When I started writing Solano County history articles for The Reporter, I couldn't help wondering if there was enough history to write about different subjects for any amount of time. I must admit that while I was the editor and writer for the United Prospectors Inc. publications, there was plenty of fodder about the gold country but I wasn't sure about Solano County.

Solano-Napa Earthquakes / Wichels, Ernest [843] [WICHELS-1965-843]
Last Sunday a devastating tremor rocked Chile; on Monday, it was the Aleutian Islands in Alaska. We are in the spring period of past earthquakes in Solano and Napa counties. Most of them have been in this eight-week period of March and April.

Old Time News Writing / Wichels, Ernest [775] [WICHELS-1963-775]
Like women's fashions, automobile bodies and hair-dos, the style of reporting news also changes with the years. In our research the past few weeks, poring over the century-old editions of our Vallejo newspapers, we have gleaned some amusing stories. The most interesting aspect is that the city editor, in the olden days, always editorialized in his reporting. Today no city desk would dare to do so.

Sunday Law sets aside time for church / Delaplane, Kristin [307] [ECHOS-1996-307]
In the spring of 1858, a new stage line was being established to run between Marysville and Vallejo or Benicia by way of Smith's Ferry, Cacheville, McMahon Ranch and Vacaville. This route was nearly identical to that of the proposed railroad. That it was to operate within nine miles of Napa City meant it would be not only accommodate passengers to and from upper Solano County, but also Napa Springs.
