This afternoon, at 3 o'clock, the public is invited to the Third Annual Pioneers Day sponsored by the Solano County Historical Society, at the historic Rockville Churchyard, about a mile north of Cordelia. The society has a long-range program of cataloging the large list of pioneers who shaped the destinies of our, county a century ago.

What is the oldest building in Solano County? This afternoon Solano citizens will be welcome to a preview of the reconstruction work nearing completion on the Pena Adobe. It is located on U.S. 40, one mile west of Vacaville.

Georgia St. Has Pioneers / Wichels, Ernest [790] [WICHELS-1964-790]
When the first block of Georgia Street was razed by the Redevelopment people for the Marina Vista project, the wreckers also removed the landmarks of many early business establishments. From the year 1850 the first block of Georgia has had associated with it the names of dozens of pioneer Vallejo merchants, lawyers, hotel operators, and others. In more recent years it has had some denizons of whom we shall say nothing.

The Sperry Pioneers / Wichels, Ernest [770] [WICHELS-1963-770]
The Sperry Division of General Mills in South Vallejo is undoubtedly Vallejo's oldest non-governmental enterprise, and is one of the larger private employers in Solano County (others, Yuba Manufacturing, Nut Tree, Gibson Publications). Today's story is a fascinating tale beginning with the gold rush, but Vallejo enters the picture in 1869.

This report is concerned with the status of historic sites and places located in the Central Solano County Planning Area. which includes generally the communities of Fairfield, Suisun City, Green Valley, Suisun Valley, Rockville and Cordelia. When we use terms in this report such as "the Fairfield area," "the planning area" or "the area" we are actually referring collectively to all of these communities in central Solano County. This report is submitted to the Fairfield City Planning Commission to implement recommendations of the Open Space Plan and ConservatIon Element of the Central Solano County General Plan..
