Pony Express riders rode through Solano / Delaplane, Kristin [337] [ECHOS-1997-337]
In nearly all the written records about the Pony Express of the 1800s, the fact that the riders took the stagecoach trail from Sacramento to Benicia is rarely documented. This route was not on the riders' regular run, but when they missed the steamer connection to San Francisco from Sacramento, which they did 19 times, they took this alternate route, riding through Solano County at their legendary breakneck speeds.

Steamers, trains provide Solano transportation / Delaplane, Kristin [393] [ECHOS-1998-393]
The steamer Cora made daily trips between Suisun, Benicia and San Francisco. The fare to and from San Francisco was a dollar each way. There was a great deal of complaint about the racing on the waters between the steamer New World and the boats of the California Steamship Navigation Co. It was feared a terrible explosion or serious accident would occur. The captain of the New World responded that the New World was simply keeping her regular speed, which other boats were unable to excel.

Reporters took probing tour into country / Delaplane, Kristin [325] [ECHOS-1997-325]
In the spring of 1879, staff from the Suisun City's Solano Republican set out to explore the countryside. Their trip started with a train ride to Bridgeport, present-day Cordelia. Along the route they viewed the orchards then in bloom. Once in Bridgeport they stopped in at each of the town's business establishments.
