Orchardists and workers clash / Goerke-Shrode, Sabine [143] [WAYITWAS-2002-143]
All eyes focused on the dispute between local orchardists and fruit workers during the months of November and December 1932. The Nov. 25 clash between the workers, led by members of the Agricultural Workers' Industrial League, and law enforcement had deeply antagonized both sides.

During the heyday of the fruit orchards in Solano County, the ethnic mix of orchardists and workers was astounding. The early arrivals were the original settlers, the Spanish and then the trailblazers from back East. Then came the Chinese.

Foreign labor lifeblood of agriculture / Goerke-Shrode, Sabine [75] [WAYITWAS-2001-75]
Japanese workers filled void Vacaville's orchardists toward the end of the 19th century relied heavily on foreign labor to run their orchards, harvest and pack the fruit and ship it to the East Coast.
