Suisun City grows roots around it's businesses / Delaplane, Kristin [392] [ECHOS-1998-392]
Suisun City had its roots in the 1850s. Credit for the discovery of the area dates back to 1850, when Curtis Wilson and Dr. John Baker happened to sail up the winding Suisun Slough and they recorded their finding. The environment was mainly tule land populated with mud hens and a herd of elk.

The 1870s were to be a prosperous time for Solano County. Many of those early pioneers were realizing their dreams and had become respected citizens. Bog was barrier between two cities / Bowen, Jerry [818] [WAYITWAS-2008-818]
I left off in my last column noting that when Fairfield became the County Seat in 1858, Fairfield was still struggling to become the more prominent city, even though it had the increased influence of being the county seat. Suisun was already an important shipping port and business community, and many of the officials made their home in Suisun rather than Fairfield.
