Remembering some Christmas pasts
/
Goerke-Shrode, Sabine
[50]
[WAYITWAS-2000-50]
Christmas is fast approaching with its wonderful traditions and not so wonderful "still-have-to-do" moments. Records of earlier celebrations allow us a glimpse of some of the same traditions but also of a slower, seemingly more peaceful season.

Remembering the Good Old School Days
/
Rico, John
[876]
[RICO-1981-876]
School days, good old golden rule days. An estimated 9,000 Vacaville area elementary and high school students will go back to their classes next Tuesday. No one is able to predict whether registrations will be up or down. With home building here at a near stagnant position, there actually could be a decline in registrations for the fall semesters.

New Year Eve Past Century
/
Wichels, Ernest
[847]
[WICHELS-1964-847]
We discover what our forefathers did during the New Year season by reading Farragut's log books, and looking over the early editions of the Vallejo Chronicle. How did the weather behave here 100 years ago today?

Vallejo's Cow Palace
/
Wichels, Ernest
[793]
[WICHELS-1964-793]
For upwards of a half-century Vallejo had its own version of San Francisco's Cow Palace. Perhaps the present Vallejo generation marvels at the variety of activities which the Cow Palace holds under its roof--rodeos, ice hockey, presidential conventions, religious revivals, dog shows, prize fights, etc.

[WICHELS-1964-789]
Last Sunday we discussed the hospital facilities or, rather, lack of such facilities available to Solano County and Vallejo residents form 1849. Today we will go into some detail concerning the medical and nursing care Vallejoans have had since that date.

Another Year Is History
/
Wichels, Ernest
[779]
[WICHELS-1964-779]
The year 1963 is now another page of the past. Much happened in tragedy, space science, international politics, the curb on nuclear testing, etc. Future historians will tell future generations what was important; we all are too close to the picture to make the appraisal today.

Orders For Mare Island
/
Wichels, Ernest
[772]
[WICHELS-1963-772]
We oldsters often date ourselves by the fashions we wear, by the tunes we hum, or by the furniture we insist on keeping. Today we are going to date the Mare Island Naval Shipyard. Most everyone knows that our great naval plant is 109 years old but it is interesting to read the thousands of Commandants' Orders and Notices which serve as milestones of the past century.
