[WAYITWAS-2002-136]
Though he was born in Orange County, Va., on May 30, 1808, he grew up in Kentucky. Like many young frontier men, he felt the urge to move further west. The year 1830 found him as a farmer in New London, Miss., where he married Cornelia Catherine Lamme, a great-granddaughter of Daniel Boone, on Jan. 19, 1830.

[WAYITWAS-2007-795]
This winter has not yet brought much cold or rainy weather, so that my holiday letter to shivering friends in Germany includes photos of roses in bloom. Yet this weather can change quickly, turning into heavy winter rains, such as Luzena Stanley Wilson and her family experienced in 1849 in Sacramento.

Benicia-Martinez Bridge makes history

Bowen, Jerry
[61]
[WAYITWAS-2001-61]
A letter from Ross Noonan brought an error to my attention in the article about the ferryboat Solano, published January 7. At the end of the article I indicated the Carquinez Bridge was responsible for putting the Solano out of business. Well, that was the wrong bridge and wrong year. I should have stuck to the rule of checking my facts from at least two verifiable sources [...]

Cities battled over location of county seat
/
Goerke-Shrode, Sabine
[24]
[WAYITWAS-2000-24]
Solano County has "mobility" written all over its early history. Not only did the county host the state capitol several times - for one week in January 1852 and again for a few weeks in January 1853 in Vallejo. And after that, the Legislature moved to Benicia in February 1853, where it stayed until February 1854.
