Prehistoric camels roamed Potrero Hills / Delaplane, Kristin [277] [ECHOS-1996-277]
First in a series The low-range Potrero Hills start about three miles southeast of Fairfield and run some five miles or 10,000 acres. The maximum elevation is 400 feet above sea level. The geologists find the fact that they run in an east-west direction - interesting, as the majority of such features in the area run northwest.

The Montezuma I and II project area lies in the western portion of the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta, for the most part in the area known as the Montezuma Hills. The principal purpose of this research effort has been to provide PG E with information which would have allowed the company to complete requirements for Application For Certification to the California Energy Commission. The cultural resources investigation is considered part of the broad environmental review process necessary under CEC guidelines..

Information for this article came from the Vacaville Heritage Council, Solano Genealogical Society, Solano Historian and the Suisun City Fire Department. First of two parts Suisun Township was the largest township in Solano County, consisting of about 110,000 acres; 10,000 of those acres were under water. The township was bounded all around by Elmira, Vacaville, Napa County, Green Valley Township, Benicia and the Montezuma Township.

Information for this article came from the Vacaville Heritage Council, Vacaville Museum, and Solano County Genealogical Society. Second of two parts Last week we looked at the beginnings of Collinsville, founded by the notorious Hastings as a new frontier for a group of Mormons. The Mormons never arrived, but a settlement of farmers and fisherman was established. The land changed hands and was the product of a huge land scam. In two years the scam unraveled and the town was sold to Emory Irving Upham.

The next time you are in the area bounded by York, Santa Clara, Maine and Sacramento streets in Vallejo, you will be near a long-gone historic site. Back in 1852 a two-story building sporting two flags dominated a hill that was centrally located between those streets.
