The eventful year of 1942 affected everyone in the world, including the quiet little hamlet of Fairfield. The Army Airfield (Later named Travis Air Force Base) was under full construction and use. Permit applications for new apartment construction for the expanding population was granted.

In October 1884, Raleigh Barcar took over as publisher of The Reporter. Publisher and founder, James McClain, claimed declining health made it necessary for him to leave the business. The Reporter moved to the back of Kinsmill's harness shop and realtors Lyon and Platt moved to the Reporter's old stand on the Triangle lot.

In the spring of 1858, a new stage line was being established to run between Marysville and Vallejo or Benicia by way of Smith's Ferry, Cacheville, McMahon Ranch and Vacaville. This route was nearly identical to that of the proposed railroad. That it was to operate within nine miles of Napa City meant it would be not only accommodate passengers to and from upper Solano County, but also Napa Springs.

Last in a series Dating back to at least 1879, one of the jobs of Dixon's marshal was the collection of town taxes and license fees from the hotels and saloons. The marshal then billed the city a percentage. This was a practice in all towns. Oftentimes, there would be a bit of a squabble between the various lawmen - sheriff, constables and marshals - to see who would collect these fees.
