While the celebration of May Day goes back to pagan times, it was celebrated in Solano County well into the 20th century. Each spring, residents anticipated gathering outdoors to enjoy the fresh young greenery, renew friendships after a long winter, dance around the maypole and feast on a lavish picnic.

The video highlights significant events and projects that shaped present day Fairfield. Numerous current and past employees, long-time residents, and local Solano County historians were either featured in the video or provided documents and pictures for the project..

Extravaganza in 1914 dedicated courthouse / Goerke-Shrode, Sabine [579] [WAYITWAS-2005-579]
Solano County celebrated the dedication of its courthouse in 1914 with a grand party. Although the courthouse itself had been finished in 1911, it took until the July 4th weekend of 1914 for the community to gather and enjoy a fun-filled, two-day event.
