Suisun ranks in top western train robberies / Delaplane, Kristin [407] [ECHOS-1998-407]
Engineer Jack Marsh sat in the cab of passenger train No. 10 as it pulled out of Benicia on the night of April 16, 1910. It was warm and the full moon cast a bright glint on the oily, tawny waters.

Information for this article came from the Western Railway Museum and the Vacaville Heritage Council. Second in a series In 1869, the Vallejo Street Car Co. began operation as a horse-car line going from the business district to the train depot in north Vallejo. It proved to be a poor business venture, as the car had difficulty staying on the tracks.

The following are newspaper accounts that appeared from January through May 1865 and giving an indication of life at that time. Solano County had a population of 8,000 to 10,000 people and ranked seventh in the state as measured by their wealth.

Steamers, trains provide Solano transportation / Delaplane, Kristin [393] [ECHOS-1998-393]
The steamer Cora made daily trips between Suisun, Benicia and San Francisco. The fare to and from San Francisco was a dollar each way. There was a great deal of complaint about the racing on the waters between the steamer New World and the boats of the California Steamship Navigation Co. It was feared a terrible explosion or serious accident would occur. The captain of the New World responded that the New World was simply keeping her regular speed, which other boats were unable to excel.

Solano no stranger to ghostly visitors / Delaplane, Kristin [309] [ECHOS-1996-309]
One of the first ghosts to make its appearance in Solano County was on a dark and stormy night when Dr. Platton Vallejo, traveling in a horse-drawn buggy, was returning from a call out in the country. As Dr. Vallejo told it, "Fast moving clouds sporadically hid a large full moon, which when out, changed the scene from night to day.
