Chinese community falls apart after mass murder / Dingler, Nancy [464] [RETROSPECT-2001-464]
Evelyn Lockie felt shock and revulsion as she surveyed the grisly scene she had been summoned to as a reporter for the Sacramento Bee and Solano Republican in August of 1928. "All hell had broken loose in Chinatown. There were deaths by shooting."

Solano County communities busy in 1884 / Delaplane, Kristin [362] [ECHOS-1997-362]
The popular saloon owned by A.B. Miller, at the corner of Bush and Depot streets in Vacaville, was the scene of a major shooting in December 1884. Louis Sohn was killed - most felt deservedly so. Sohn was greatly angered when Nap Broughton's widow married J. Walter A. Gilmore, because Sohn had been determined to run her ranch himself.

Over the last 150 years, towns and small communities have come and gone. Some only existed on paper and never got off the ground. There were many reasons for the rise and fall of these communities, including war, railroad and highway placement and changing industry, among others.
