Town of Cordelia launched with high hopes / Delaplane, Kristin [240] [ECHOS-1995-240]
Information for this article came from the Vacaville Heritage Council, Solano Genealogical Society and Fairfield Public Library archives. In 1866, the boundaries of Green Valley Township were laid out. They included the sites of Green Valley and Suisun Valley and the villages Cordelia/Bridgeport, and Rockville.

Bridges built over troubling waters in town / Delaplane, Kristin [369] [ECHOS-1998-369]
Dingley's Mill in Green Valley changed hands and the new owners had plans to enlarge the establishment and employ steam as the power source. George Dingley was forced to abandon his mill through a foreclosure eviction notice. When he originally purchased the land, the seller failed to disclose the mortgage liability.

Information for this article came from the Vacaville Heritage Council and Vacaville Museum. Second of two parts Vacaville was the birthplace of another man of note. The famed botanist, Willis Linn Jepson, was born in Vacaville in 1867.

Fifty years since the birth of the Monticello Dam / Dingler, Nancy [736] [RETROSPECT-2007-736]
This month, Solano Irrigation District celebrated 50 years since the completion of the Monticello Dam, which forms Lake Berryessa. In the process of creating the lake, a rich and fertile valley was lost, along with the small town of Monticello, which had been established in 1882.

Delving into Winters story with Vacaville / Bowen, Jerry [551] [WAYITWAS-2004-551]
The town of Winters, located just across the Yolo County line, shares its history with Vacaville in many ways. The earliest inhabitants of the area were Indians known as the Wintun, also known as Southern Patwin or Southern Wintun. They moved into the southern Sacramento Valley from the north some 1,200 years ago.

Writings reveal turn-of-the-century life / Delaplane, Kristin [324] [ECHOS-1997-324]
Pearl Fowler and Evelyn Lockie, both born around the turn of the century, wrote about their early days in Cordelia and the Suisun Valley. These writings give a window into their world and what their day-to-day life was like in Solano County. Fowler lived in the Green Valley Township with the small town of Cordelia the center of her universe.
