Dusty memories and a castle on the hill / Bowen, Jerry [34] [WAYITWAS-2000-34]
Ghost towns are often the essence of dreams of adventure. They conjure up dreams of tumbleweeds rolling down a dusty street, doors hanging askew swaying in a whimsical breeze and decaying buildings embracing the memories of a population long since gone.

Town flourished, then faded on the river of time / Bowen, Jerry [580] [WAYITWAS-2005-580]
In my last column, we saw that the settlement of the Montezuma Hills was a long and troubled process. One of the more interesting claims made for a grant of land was the infamous "Luco Claim."

Vacaville's Past Rests Upon A Peaceful Hill / Rico, John [920] [RICO-1979-920]
AT REST - PEACEFULLY UPON A HILL - While I do not cherish the assignment of reporting the obituaries in this newspaper, I do so having been a resident here for more than 60 years, and having known thousands of neighbors, friends and relatives who have gone to their last rewards.

Cholera plagued wagon trains on trip west / Bowen, Jerry [621] [WAYITWAS-2006-621]
In my last article, we began following the long wagon trip to California in 1849 with James S. Pleasants and his family. They had named the wagon train the Pleasant Hill Wagon Train in honor of the town they had been living near in Missouri.

Two different towns of Cordelia / Bowen, Jerry [78] [WAYITWAS-2001-78]
According to Thompson and West's 1878 Atlas of Solano County, Cordelia is the second-oldest town in Solano County. The same information was provided in the 1879 Wood-Alley History of Solano County. Since then, writer after writer and historian after historian has repeated this as fact ... including me.
