How the past is used or abused can have an important bearing on how a community or county perceives itself. Preservation and promotion of a county's collective past is a logical goal for any self-respecting people. Indeed, pride in the past is seeing resurgence lately as more and more of our precious history is bulldozed under for redevelopment. It takes dedicated people who aren't afraid to work hard in order to set aside some of our precious history in Solano County for future generations.

This report is concerned with the status of historic sites and places located in the Central Solano County Planning Area. which includes generally the communities of Fairfield, Suisun City, Green Valley, Suisun Valley, Rockville and Cordelia. When we use terms in this report such as "the Fairfield area," "the planning area" or "the area" we are actually referring collectively to all of these communities in central Solano County. This report is submitted to the Fairfield City Planning Commission to implement recommendations of the Open Space Plan and ConservatIon Element of the Central Solano County General Plan..

In 1868 Juan Felipe Pena's granddaughter, Maria Delores Pena, married John Patton. John's father, Albert Lyon, first arrived in the Vacaville area in 1847 and settled north of the Pena Adobe. In the 1880s through the 1900s, the industry on Grizzly Island was pretty well given over to dairies. Cows were milked only in the spring and then they were milked by hand. Their fresh milk was separated and fed to the ranchers' calves and pigs. It was Steve Staffane's job to stop at each ranch to collect the cream, which was hauled by barge on the sloughs to Dutton's Landing where, the White Rose Creamery was established [...]

Suisun was a fast growing town from the 1870s to the 1890s. Loads of marble passed through Suisun from Judge Swan's marble quarry located about seven miles north of Suisun at Tolenas Springs en route to San Francisco.
