Ship with cargo of sugar meets bitter end / Bowen, Jerry [718] [WAYITWAS-2007-718]
I've done a couple of stories in the past on Matthew Turner, but for some of the new arrivals in Solano County he probably is unknown even though he built more sailing ships than any other man in America.

Historic sites hidden by a veil of the past / Bowen, Jerry [616] [WAYITWAS-2005-616]
Perhaps in this piece I'll raise an awareness of the rapidly disappearing historic sites that we are losing in Solano County or of those that have already vanished because so little is known about them.

Memories of the Fairfield area / Bowen, Jerry [198] [WAYITWAS-2004-198]
Memoirs often provide valuable insight about the past that may seem of little importance when an individual first writes them. Solano enjoyed glorious spring in 1856 / Delaplane, Kristin [287] [ECHOS-1996-287]
Second in a series Springtime 1856: gardening chores were on people's minds. The editors of the Solano County Herald approvingly noted that citizens were taking advantage of the pleasant weather to improve their lots by planting trees and flower and vegetable gardens. Garden Seeds were the hot item at the Benicia Drug Store and Judge and Co. at the Bunker Hill House was set to do business gardening, teaming, well digging and whitewashing.

Lonely historic site awaits much-needed help / Bowen, Jerry [830] [WAYITWAS-2008-830]
It lies on a windswept knoll above the confluence of the San Joaquin River and the Sacramento River. Slowly but surely, giant windmills move stealthily ever closer to the deteriorating wood shell covered adobe. Mold on one of the interior walls appears as a small sinister-looking waterfall from a leak in the roof.
