[RICO-1981-891]
YESTERDAY'S "JUNK" - There are many resident of Vacaville who can reminisce back to the days when their possessions included a pot-bellied stove, a washboard, coffee grinder and a myriad collection of items which had served them well, but as newer innovations made an appearance, those old pieces of "junk" ended up at the city dumps.

We Need An Almanac to Reveal Name Sources
/
Rico, John
[890]
[RICO-1981-890]
THE ORIGIN OF NAMES - Have you often wondered, especially the many newcomers, how names of streets, parks, schools and places receive their names? Frankly, that's a good question, and one which is impossible to define.

Cheap Money Can Cure Most of Our Problems
/
Rico, John
[888]
[RICO-1981-888]
IT'S ONLY MONEY - Many times I have had the desire to be knowledgeable enough to understand our present economic problems. The more I read, the more confused I become. I am beginning to have my doubts about the wisdom of some key economists. We must accept the fact that we have strayed into a position of being credit card "junkies," and there's not a pill available in any drug store which will cure this illness.

Current Seasonal Rainfall Is Disappointing
/
Rico, John
[887]
[RICO-1981-887]
LACK OF RAIN - ALWAYS A DRY SUBJECT - We are heading for the end of the present 1980-81 rainfall season, and with only the remainder of June in the 12-month period, there's every likelihood the total for the current season can be tabulated among the 11 in the past 80 years when precipitation has not gone over the current total of 15.12 inches.

/
Rico, John
[886]
[RICO-1981-886]
OUR SCHOOLS - LOSING THEIR PROMINENCE - Tuesday, June 9, may well be labeled "A Day For Disaster." That's the day local area voters went to the polls and made known their feelings in a recall election for school trustees.

June Was a Hot Month - More to Come
/
Rico, John
[885]
[RICO-1981-885]
THERE ARE FIGURES AND MORE FIGURES - Everyone talks about the. weather but no one can do anything about it. That's what has happened here in the month of June. The weather during the past 30 days has drawn about as much front page publicity as did the economic situation across the nation.

Mr. 'Big' Running Rampant Across USA
/
Rico, John
[884]
[RICO-1981-884]
BIG GOVERNMENT, BIG EVERYTHING - In order to place this article in its proper perspective, it is necessary to go back about 50 years, and delve lightly on the economic situations which prevailed not only in the United States but around the world.

[883]
[RICO-1981-883]
WAITING FOR THE TKO - Having been a resident of Vacaville for the past 64 years, and a "fixture" on Main Street for 57 years, it has been my privilege to watch the heartbeat of the community throughout the years.
