Launching of the Armored Cruiser "California" Program

Abstract: Souvenir Program from the launching of the armored cruiser "California" under the auspices of the Native Sons of the Golden West. At the Union Iron Works, San Francisco, April 28, 1904. Her principal dimensions are as follows: Length on load water line, 502 feet; extreme breadth, 69 1/2, feet; mean draught, 24 feet 1 inch; extreme draught, 26 feet 6 inches; displacement, 13.440 tons. Her engines will be twin-screw, of the four-cylinder triple expansion type, developing 23,000 indicated horse power, and 120 revolutions per minute, at a maximum speed of 22 knots. [...]

The remainder of the site is master planned as a governmental center, to include a library, post office, theater-auditorium, State and Federal offices and school administration building, surrounding the large lake in the center of the site. Fairfield Civic Center Dedication Program

Abstract: The first step toward a Fairfield Civic Center began on November 24, 1953, when the City CouncIl voted to proceed with purchase from the Federal Government of a thirty-three acre site just north of the City's Central Business District. This site was well known as Wateman Park and had been a World War II temporary housing project of 315 unots with a central recreation center and cafeteria. At the time of purchase the City Council intended that the site become Fairfield's Civic Center. The City Hall building is the largest of the five building complex.
